About QR codes to PDF

QR codes to PDF turns a list of values — one per line — into a printable sheet of codes. Each line is encoded by an in-page QR generator at error correction level M, rasterised at 512 pixels, and stamped into a grid, with an optional 8-point caption beneath every code. You pick 1 to 6 codes per row, A4 or Letter, and a margin between 12 and 96 points; the layout adds pages as it fills, up to 200 codes per sheet. How to use QR codes to PDF

    Put one URL or text value per line in the “Values (one per line)” box. It starts pre-filled with three sample links; replace them with your own.

  2. Set the grid

    The Codes per row chips run from 1 to 6. Fewer per row means bigger codes with chunkier, easier-to-scan modules.

  3. Pick page size and margin

    Choose A4 or Letter, and set Margin (pt) anywhere from 12 to 96. The margin determines how much printable width the grid divides between the columns.

  4. Turn the caption on or off

    The Text label chips decide whether each code gets its value printed underneath it in small type.

  5. Check the live preview

Frequently asked questions about QR codes to PDF

What kinds of data can I encode?

Anything writable as a line of text encodes cleanly, because a QR code carries characters, not file types. URLs are the common case, but mailto: and tel: links, plain instructions, product SKUs, serial numbers, geo: coordinates, vCard contact blocks and WIFI: network strings all work — with one structural caveat: each line of the box becomes its own code, so formats that would normally span several lines, such as a full vCard, must be written on one line using the escape sequences those formats define. Keep values short where you can. The pattern grows with the amount of data, so a 300-character payload prints as a far denser grid than a 30-character link and needs either a bigger cell or a closer scan. The tool never visits or validates what you paste; it only encodes it.

What error correction level do the codes use?

Every code is generated at error correction level M, the medium setting, which the QR standard defines as recovering roughly 15 percent of a damaged pattern. That is the usual choice for print: it survives the smudges, creases and partial coverage labels pick up in normal handling, without inflating the pattern the way the higher levels do. Level M is fixed in this version, so if you need the heavier protection of level Q or H — for a code that will live outdoors, sit under lamination, or have a logo placed over it — generate that one with a tool that exposes the setting. For asset tags, table cards, shelf labels and printed links, level M with a clean black-on-white print and an intact quiet zone is more robust in practice than raising the level.

How large will each code be on the page, and how much data fits?

Cell size is arithmetic you can predict: printable width is the page width minus both margins, divided by the number of codes per row. On A4 with the default 36-point margin and three codes per row, each cell is about 174 points — roughly 61 mm — and the code fills it minus a small inset. Six per row on the same page gives about 87 points, near 31 mm. The number of modules in the pattern grows with the payload, so the same cell holds either a short link as chunky, forgiving squares or a long one as a fine grid that phones have to be held closer to read. When your values are long, use fewer codes per row, shorten the links first, or widen the printable area by reducing the margin.

Why is the caption missing under some of my codes?

A caption is dropped when its value contains characters that cannot be drawn as PDF text, and an amber notice tells you how many and why. Labels are set in 8-point Helvetica; if any value needs characters Helvetica does not cover, the whole sheet switches to an embedded Unicode font instead. Some characters — CJK scripts and emoji in particular — fall outside even that font, and those individual captions are left out rather than printed as empty boxes. The QR code itself is never affected: the payload is encoded as an image, so it carries any script intact and scanning still returns the full value. Long captions are shortened with an ellipsis to fit their cell, and there too only the caption is truncated. You can switch labels off entirely with the Text label chip.

How many codes fit on one sheet, and what if I paste more?

Up to 200 values are used per PDF, and anything past that is ignored with a visible warning rather than quietly dropped. Within that limit the layout fills the grid you chose and starts a new page whenever the cursor runs past the bottom margin, so a hundred codes at three per row simply becomes several pages of the same sheet. The cap exists because generating and embedding hundreds of images is memory-hungry on modest devices, and 200 already fills multiple pages comfortably. Does anything I paste get sent anywhere?

Nothing you type into the values box is transmitted, and the URLs in it are never visited. Encoding happens in the tab: a QR generator turns each line into a pattern and a PDF writer assembles the sheet, both loaded as part of the page. The only network traffic this tool can cause is fetching its own code from pdfchamp.app and — if a caption needs characters Helvetica cannot draw — one font file, also served from pdfchamp.app. Your list stays in the browser's memory and the PDF is built and saved locally. The tool is free, with no account, no per-sheet charge and no watermark on the output. That matters when the payloads are internal asset IDs, private Wi-Fi credentials or unpublished links you would rather not hand to a third party.
