Optimize PDF tools

Five ways to make a PDF smaller, tidier or cheaper to handle without changing what it says. Compress PDF re-encodes the embedded images, which is where nearly all the weight in a large PDF lives — expect a real reduction on scans and photo-heavy decks, and very little on a document that is mostly text. Resize PDF scales every page to a target size such as A4 or Letter, which is what you want when a file built for one paper standard has to be printed under another.

Flatten PDF merges form fields and annotations into the page itself, so filled values and comments become fixed content that no viewer can edit or quietly drop. Remove blank PDF pages finds the empty sheets a duplex scanner leaves behind and deletes them. Grayscale PDF strips color, which lowers the cost of a black-and-white print run and makes the output predictable on an office printer.

Compression is usually the first thing anyone searches for when an email bounces on an attachment limit, and it is normally solved by uploading the file to whichever site ranks first that day. Doing the work in the browser removes that step entirely: the document is decoded, re-encoded and written back on your own machine, so a file too sensitive to upload is not too sensitive to compress.
