Terms of service
The ground rules for using PDFChamp. Plain English. No payment, no account, no surprises.
Last updated: May 12, 2026
1. Acceptance of terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you (“you”, “your”, or “user”) and the PDFChamp project (“PDFChamp”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) regarding your access to and use of the website located at pdfchamp.app and any tools, features, or services offered through it (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.
2. What PDFChamp is
PDFChamp is a free, ad-supported collection of PDF utilities that runs entirely inside your web browser. There are no user accounts, no sign-ups, no logins, and no payment tiers. The Service does not upload your files to any server: all PDF processing — including merging, splitting, compressing, converting, editing, and any other tool offered — is performed locally on your own device using client-side technology. Because the Service is free and unauthenticated, it is provided on a best-effort basis and may change, evolve, or be discontinued at any time without notice.
3. Eligibility
By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement under the laws applicable to you. If you are a minor or otherwise lack full legal capacity in your place of residence, you must obtain consent from a parent or legal guardian before using the Service, and that parent or guardian agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf. The Service is intended for general audiences and is not specifically directed at children. If applicable law in your location requires a higher age of digital consent, you must meet that age requirement to use the Service.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms and any applicable laws and regulations in your location. Without limiting the foregoing, you agree that you will not: (a) use the Service to process documents you do not own or do not have the necessary rights or permissions to modify, including circumventing passwords, encryption, digital rights management (DRM), or other technical protection measures on PDFs that belong to others; (b) use the Service to create, distribute, or process content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, harassing, fraudulent, or that violates the privacy, intellectual property, or other rights of any third party; (c) attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the Service or the servers and networks that deliver it; (d) use automated tools, bots, or scripts to abuse the Service or its advertising partners; (e) attempt to bypass, disable, or circumvent advertisements, security features, or any usage limits applied to the Service; or (f) use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the experience of other users.
You are solely responsible for the documents you choose to process and for ensuring that your use of the Service complies with all laws and regulations applicable to you.
5. Your content stays yours
The Service is designed so that the files you load — including any PDFs, images, or other documents — never leave your device. We do not receive, store, copy, transmit, or have access to your files or their contents. Because of this, we claim no ownership, license, or other rights of any kind over the documents you process using the Service. All rights in and to your files remain entirely yours (or those of the rightful owner from whom you have obtained permission to process them). You acknowledge that since processing occurs entirely on your device, you are responsible for keeping your own backups of any important documents before, during, and after using the Service.
6. Intellectual property
The PDFChamp name, the pdfchamp.app domain, the site's design, layout, branding, original text, logos, and graphics are the intellectual property of the PDFChamp project and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the PDFChamp brand or site materials without prior written permission, except as expressly permitted by these Terms or by law. The Service makes use of various open-source libraries and components, each of which remains subject to its own license. Nothing in these Terms restricts your rights under those open-source licenses with respect to the underlying libraries themselves. Conversely, any work product you create using the Service — for example, the merged, split, edited, or converted PDF you generate locally — belongs entirely to you (or its rightful owner), and we make no claim to it.
7. Display advertising
The Service is supported by display advertising provided by third-party advertising networks. Advertisements may appear on pages of the Service and may include text, images, video, or interactive content. These advertisements are served and controlled by third parties and not by PDFChamp. We do not endorse, guarantee, or assume responsibility for any product, service, opinion, or claim made in an advertisement or on any external website you reach by clicking on an advertisement or external link. Any interaction you have with an advertiser or a third-party website — including purchases, downloads, or sharing of information — is solely between you and that third party and is at your own risk.
8. Third-party services
The Service may rely on, link to, or integrate with third-party services such as analytics providers, advertising networks, content delivery networks, and hosting providers. Your use of any such third-party services is governed by the terms and privacy policies of those third parties, not by these Terms. We encourage you to review the relevant third-party terms and privacy policies before engaging with them. Additional information about how third parties may set cookies or process technical data in your browser is available in our Privacy Policy.
9. Service availability
The Service is offered free of charge and on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee that the Service will be available at all times, that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from bugs, viruses, or other harmful components. We may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, modify, suspend, limit, or discontinue all or any part of the Service, add or remove tools, or change how existing tools work. Because the Service is free and provided without a user account or contract for service, no uptime, performance, or availability commitments are made.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. We expressly disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, reliability, and uninterrupted operation. You acknowledge that browser-based processing has inherent technical limits — including limits on file size, memory, processing speed, and supported document features — and that results may vary based on your device, browser, and the structure of the documents you process. We do not warrant that any specific PDF will be processed successfully, completely, or without loss of formatting or data.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the PDFChamp project, its contributors, or its affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including but not limited to lost profits, lost data, lost or corrupted documents, business interruption, loss of goodwill, or any other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Service — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Because the Service is provided free of charge and processes files locally on your own device, you are strongly encouraged to keep independent backups of any important documents before using the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law applicable to you, such as liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or harm to life or health where such limitation is prohibited.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the PDFChamp project and its contributors from and against any and all claims, demands, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use or misuse of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any law or regulation; or (d) your violation of the rights of any third party, including intellectual property, privacy, or contractual rights.
13. Modifications
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the Service, legal requirements, or operational practices. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. The updated Terms become effective when posted on this page. Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service.
14. Termination
Because the Service does not require an account, there is generally nothing to terminate on your side — you may stop using the Service at any time simply by closing the website. We reserve the right, at our sole discretion and without notice, to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service in whole or in part, and to block, restrict, or prevent access by any user or network we believe is abusing the Service, violating these Terms, or causing harm to other users or to the Service itself. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution — will continue to apply.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a competent authority, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable, or, if it cannot be so modified, will be deemed severed from these Terms. The remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
16. No waiver
Our failure or delay in enforcing any provision of these Terms shall not be deemed a waiver of that provision or of our right to enforce it later. No waiver of any term of these Terms shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of that term or any other term.
17. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other notices or policies published on the Service, constitute the entire agreement between you and PDFChamp concerning your use of the Service, and supersede any prior agreements, understandings, or communications, whether written or oral, on the same subject matter.
18. Dispute resolution
PDFChamp is an international, free-to-use service that does not collect personal data, does not require accounts, and does not process payments. Because users access the Service from many regions around the world, we do not designate a specific governing law or exclusive forum for disputes in these Terms.
If you have a concern, complaint, or dispute regarding the Service, you agree to first attempt to resolve the matter informally and in good faith by contacting us at the address below and giving us a reasonable opportunity to respond. Most concerns can be resolved quickly through direct communication.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit, override, or waive any mandatory consumer-protection rights, statutory rights, or other non-waivable legal protections that apply to you under the laws of your place of residence. Where such mandatory local rules conflict with these Terms, those mandatory local rules will prevail to the extent required by law, and the remaining provisions of these Terms will continue to apply.
19. Contact
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback about these Terms or the Service, please contact us at [email protected], or visit the Contact page.
